As I get older, I have less energy; the best part is that it’s great.
No, I haven’t gone crazy.
I finally understood the value of experience: learning to save and manage my energy wisely.
Let me explain…
Over the years, I have discovered that the quantity and quality of my energy are not the same throughout the day.
Creativity finds me in the mornings; my best time is between 12:00 and 14:00. (Maybe you shine more at night; everyone has their own rhythm).
Knowing this and not fooling myself has been a radical change.
As I am self-employed and work depends on my creative side, my morning routine is untouchable: I organize my tasks, go for a walk with my mother to do her rehab, and, at 12:00 sharp, I plant myself in front of the computer.
During those two hours, no force in the universe moves me.
No way.
I learned that between 12:00 and 14:00, I perform as I do at no other time, much more than from 14:00 to 20:30 when I finish my day.
In those two hours, I wrote down what I wouldn’t have done in six and a half hours if I had changed my schedule.
That’s why I leave the afternoon -from 14:00 to 20:30- to read, research, answer emails, record my audio courses, attend clients, edit, translate articles, or format magazines.
But writing, never.
Because, unlike in mathematics, the order of the factors does alter the product when it comes to energy.
So here’s my unsolicited advice for today: reorganize your schedule according to your energy levels.
Think of yourself as a car: it would make more sense to take a long trip at full throttle and leave the short rides around town for when you’re low on gas.
It sounds silly, but it’s not.
I wrote my first book from 14:00 to 18:00, and believe me, it was slow and tiring, like dragging a stone uphill.
Then, in 2021, I started writing articles in English and adjusted my routine to match my creative energy. The result: over 1500 articles published and counting.
When I am asked, “How did you do it?”. My answer is simple: I stopped forcing my creativity to fit my schedule and adapted my schedule to fit my energy.
I think that’s what they call “flowing with life.”
Tell me in the comments: what are your most creative hours, and how has taking advantage of them changed your life?
And don’t forget to subscribe to this blog so that every morning I can torment you with my emails and crazy ideas 🙂
