Three Subtle Signs That You Are Self-sabotaging Your Spiritual Growth

You are the most crucial person in your journey. — Even if you don’t see it right now.

You have to be your best friend. Otherwise, you’ll become your biggest enemy.

I know it first hand.

I was the rock on my way. I sabotaged my relationships, projects, and dreams. And, more importantly, my spiritual growth.

The good news is that you can change it by being aware of these three red flags.

1. You start speaking ill about yourself

Self-sabotage is a defense mechanism that defends you from yourself.

And one of the first red flags that warns you that you are self-sabotaging is the inner monologue of your mind.

If, in your mind, you start to be more critical of yourself than usual, two things happen.

  1. You are on the right track and probably close to accomplishing what you set out to do.
  2. Your subconscious doesn’t want you to achieve it because it is afraid you will succeed and change.

Your ego wants to survive, so change scares it. It doesn’t want you to progress because when you do, you acquire a new self different from your own.

That is why every time you are about to make a quantum leap in your spiritual evolution, you start to feel so nervous and get doubts.

What to do: Persist. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Don’t be afraid of the person you’ll become; you’ll be a better version of yourself.

2. You stop being grateful

When you begin to grow spiritually, you begin to realize that magic dwells all around you.

What is the probability that we are alive, spinning on a rock around a star called the sun in one of the millions of galaxies that exist?

F*ck! If we only know 4% of the universe.

So… The second red flag when you self-sabotage your spiritual growth, is to stop seeing life as a miracle.

You start taking things for granted: the sunrises, the exquisite taste of coffee in the morning, the hugs, the smell of wet earth, walking barefoot on the beach.

Everything seems TASTELESS.

Your reality turns into a b-movie because your evil thoughts increase, making you feel bad, and — as you know — how you think is how you act. So you end up doing things you don’t want to, like throwing it all away and going back to drinking (My bad 🙁 )

What to do: Your life experience is the interception of what you think about the world and what your think about yourself, so if you want to get your spiritual growth back on track, better your perception of that two things by being thankful for the life you have and the everyday miracles you are surrounded.

3. You stop trusting in life

The third sign of self-sabotaging your spiritual growth is that you stop believing that the universe can still surprise you. And little by little, you lose the illusion and the hope.

It is hard to get up without force, eat without hunger, and sleep without desire.

It is hard to have no illusion for anyone or anything.

It’s hard to live life as if you were in jail. I know.

But that apathy is often another of the ways that your subconscious has to keep you away from your spiritual path, to keep you imprisoned in your comfort zone.

And it is normal because spiritual growth hurts, and you are already tired of suffering.

What to do: Embrace the pain because the pain of trying and failing is less than the pain of regretting not having tried. Suffering and discomfort its part of life and spiritual growth; deal with them and trust in life because the best is yet to come.
