How to Get Ahead in Your Forties After Being Stuck Since Your Twenties

Are you tired of spending money and time on self-help courses to clean up the mediocrity in your life once and for all?

Hi, I’m Alberto Garcia, and I’ve been stuck at the same point you are.

For over two decades, I have been a heavy drinker, a chain smoker, and a professional loser.

What changed? I changed.

How?

I understood the diagram of the results.

And now, it is time to unveil this secret so that you, too, can discover how this simple process works and get out of the darkness that hovers around your life.

Let’s dive in.

Reality is everything we cannot control.

And everything we cannot control can produce two things in our perception:

  1. Feelings (think of the August heat)
  2. Thoughts (Think of the news)
  • If reality produces some feeling or sensation, this, in turn, will have a series of thoughts that will make us react/act (think of the August heat and turn on the air conditioning). And this action (turning on the air conditioning) will produce a result (lower the temperature).
  • On the other hand, if reality produces some thought (watch the news), these, in turn, will have a series of feelings (fear) that will make us react/act (eat pizza and put on Netflix to lower the level of anguish). And this action (Pizza + Netflix) will produce a result (feeling momentarily relaxed and gaining weight).

Now, the intelligent thing to do is to ask how I can improve the results in the face of reality.

The answer is through thoughts since it is in our power to control them.

If we manage, they will act as an emotional thermostat improving our results.


The emotional thermostat

That’s how you feel; that’s how you behave, period.

This is the key to turning the tables, getting out of mediocrity, and achieving the life you deserve.

How do you do it?

By controlling your thoughts.

Your thoughts act as an emotional thermostat regulating negative and positive emotional intensity to produce better results.

Let’s see it with these two simple examples.

  1. Reality (Take a cold shower) → emotion (cold) → thoughts (calm your mind to think clearly and stop feeling fear) → action (focus and take deep breaths to endure the cold) → result (you successfully took your first cold shower).
  2. Reality (facing a new challenge) → thoughts (I can do it) → feelings (self-confidence) → action (perform the activity with self-confidence) → result (challenge overcome 🙂

Let’s see it again with the same example but with evil thoughts.

  1. Reality (Taking a cold shower) → emotion (cold) → thoughts (doubting and justifying yourself) → action (taking a hot shower) → result (you didn’t manage to take a cold shower).
  2. Reality (facing a new challenge) → thoughts (I can’t) → feelings (self-doubt) → action (performing the activity with self-doubt) → result (failed challenge).

Conclusion

What we believe strongly comes true because we consistently attract our beliefs.

Therefore if we believe we will have a good life, our life will improve. But be careful; the opposite also works; if we think we will have a bad life, it will worsen.

Therefore, if you change your beliefs, you change your reality.

And what are beliefs?

It is a subjective truth, a conviction. It is not reality per se but our mental representation of reality.

And that mental representation of reality is built by our thoughts and value judgments.

Bingo!

Use your thoughts properly, and by doing so, you will activate your emotional thermostat and manage to make better decisions, act more effectively, and achieve the expected results.

That’s all, but it’s not as easy as it seems because we constantly self-sabotage ourselves after decades of negative programming by our socio-cultural environment.

But it is the first step, the most important one, CONTROL YOUR THOUGHTS, and you will begin to control your life.
