Everyone Suffers — You Are Not a Unicorn

Here is what I think about when I feel bad, and it makes me feel better.

Imagine you’re not a person anymore. You are a Sunny day at the beach.

As a sunny day at the beach, you have people having fun on your sand. People scuba dive in your waters, and many surfers on your funny waves.

You feel amazing. Everybody is having fun, but suddenly grey clouds block your sun and the rain stars. In the water, things are not better: huge 6 meters waves replace the normal ones, no surfers in the water, people run to their vehicles, and everybody leaves you alone.

But do you know what?

You are still a sunny day at the beach, even if no one sees it. Because behind the clouds, your sun is still shining.

You only have to let go of the clouds and calm your waters and the good vibes, and the people will return.

In your life is the same as in this little analogy.

Let’s dive in.

The clouds

The clouds represent negative thoughts, and without clouds colliding with each other, there can be no lightning and thunder, much less rain.

For a storm to occur, cloud cover is necessary.

In your life, it is the same; for something to make you feel in a bad mood, you need negative thoughts (clouds) to accumulate and collide with each other so that the storm occurs and it rains (you feel bad and argue with everyone).

But you can learn to let go of those clouds. Remember, you are the whole picture, not only the clouds. On a sunny day, you can allow a little sea breeze to blow the clouds away so your sun (joy) can shine again.

The waves

The waves represent your mood. You can be in a pleasant mood (small waves), and you can be in an anxious mood (giant waves).

But as you know, you are the whole picture; you are the sun, the beach, and the ocean. Not only the big waves. So you can allow yourself to regulate the size of your waves (your anxiety) by being present.

You can feel your breath, stay mindfully present, focus on your body, and little by little; you will diminish the size of your waves (your anxiety).

And you achieve a calm sea state (a peaceful inner-self).

The sun, the people, and the sea

The sun represents your joy. The people the happiness. And the sea, the inner peace.

It’s all together, if you go on a sunny day with the perfect sea to the beach, you’ll find people having fun.

And people will have fun on a sunny day with peaceful waves at the beach.

So, Joy, happiness, and peace are part of a whole.

Just remember that they are not the same, especially remember that joy and happiness (which people confuse the most) are not the same.

Joy is a state of being (your sun behind the clouds), and happiness is a passing emotion (people having fun at the beach).

So, the people playing at the beach and surfing (happiness) are consequences of the sun (joy) and sea when it is calm (peace).

The takeaway

To be happy, you need to shine and stay calm. And then the people (happiness) will come to your beach. And you’ll be happy again, and the suffering will go like the clouds with the breeze 🙂
