#1. F*ck the monk mode.
If I could write to my past self, I would quote Oscar Wilde, “You must read this letter from the first letter to the last, though every word penetrates you like fire, or like a surgeon’s scalpel.”
And then, I’d detail a list of 10 essential survival lessons.
But since I can’t make the letter travel through time, I’ll settle for sharing that list with you, dear reader, to save you some heartache.
1. F*ck the monk mode.
Heed this quote from Scoott Galloway, “The house is for seven hours of sleep, and that’s it. The time you spend at home is inversely correlated with your professional and romantic success.”
2. Those who antagonize you are not always the enemy.
People who oppose your plans are not screwing up your life. It’s not all black and white, kid. You won’t always be right, so the adults who love you are against you.
3. Be true to yourself, above all else.
Kanye West once told Joe Rogan, “Telling the truth is madness in a world full of lies.” But it’s better to be considered crazy than live wearing a mask.
4. Be worldwide but also local.
Don’t fall into the trap of being global: find your girlfriend nearby (long-distance relationships are a bad decision). Set up a business in your city. Grow it, and you will gain real influence. Don’t waste time aspiring to be the TikToker or Streamer of choice. If it happens, it happens but tries to evolve in your physical environment.
5. Actively seek discomfort
The mafia has a saying, “If you can’t lose, you can’t win.” If there is no risk, it’s not worth it; get it through your head. It would be best if you faced dragons, little Lancelot.
6. Don’t settle.
In this reality, you can only go for what you can imagine. And if you can’t visualize yourself doing it, you won’t get it. So daydream, and remember this phrase from Joe Dispenza, “Your personality creates your reality.” And what is your personality? What you imagine, think, and feel.
7. Don’t indulge in victimhood
The sooner you understand that most people don’t give a shit about your dramas, the better. I know it sucks, but you must realize that when you fall and no one helps you up, you can either cry and waste valuable time or channel all your anger and get up and move forward twice as fast. So always choose the second option.
8. Don’t neglect friends
Relationships are like a garden. If you don’t water it, they die. Your garden doesn’t need to be full of delicate plants; it can be full of cactus that only needs to be watered twice or thrice a year, but don’t forget to do it. Call your friends for their birthday, don’t lose contact. Be loyal. And forgive their mistakes. He who cannot forgive a friend is not a true friend.
9. Everything can become an addiction
And you are an obsessive person. So be obsessed with a healthy life. If your mind doesn’t bend your body, your body will bend your mind. And you’ll end up a slave to your carnal passions and bankrupt in spirit, and believe me, you don’t want that.
10. Stop complaining about everything
The best way to complain is to do what you don’t like in your way. You create your world by changing the dominant culture with the most significant creative act: your life example.
11. Money and work
If no one complains about your rates, you are charging too little. Raise the price and reinvest the profits to deliver more value. And remember that it’s not about pleasing everyone but the right people; the minimum number of people to make your projects viable.
