Everyday wisdom for modern life.
The other day my mother, during a meal, said to me,
“I have seven siblings. All with more money than me. But I can be happy eating boiled rice in a tiny apartment, and they are not happy even in a mansion eating caviar.”
And this sentence blew my mind.
I had a eureka moment and realized that some people are unhappy having everything. And others who are so glad with hardly anything.
Why is that?
Wherever you go, you only live in one place: inside your mind.
Therefore, how your brain encodes and interprets information from the outside through the senses determines the degree of happiness you experience.
Hence the importance of words.
What you say to yourself about the world and your circumstances affects your quality of life.
Your inner monologue can make you sick
When you are jealous, an inner monologue is poisoning your psyche with its words.
When you are angry and resentful, an inner monologue loops obsessively that robs you of peace and makes you feel worse.
When you have a setback, you may tell yourself it is a big problem or a challenge. Depending on the word you choose (problem or challenge), you will face life in one way or another (victim mode or adventure mode).
Words can also heal you.
That’s why people go to psychologists or to see their friends when they feel bad because the words and advice of such people make them feel better.
Because of this, it is vital to understand that the words you put into your mind can help or destroy you.
What you read, what you see, what you hear, feeds your mind with words.
And those words can be the reason for your apathy, but they can also motivate you.
So it is crucial to understand that you must go on a content diet.
Because what you consume can pollute your mind.
The power of words
After reflecting on the above, I remembered a phrase from Spanish writer and journalist Juanjo Millas: “Reality is made of words, so whoever masters words masters reality.
Reflecting on this, you realize that words are both a weapon and a master key capable of opening any door.
Think about it,
- Words help you negotiate.
- When you interview for a new job, words get you through the selection process.
- Words help you get the person you like to agree to go out with you.
- Words can calm down people who, for whatever reason, have a problem with you.
- Words help you to sell, to earn money, and resources with which to improve your life.
It’s all about saying the right word at the right time.
If you say the right words, you can get everything you want: jobs, money, love. So words are the magic key to abundance, happiness, and well-being.
And all this was not taught to me by my beloved Ram Dass but by the person who taught me to say my first word, “mama.” 🙂
