#11. Never forget where you started, or you’ll be back to the hole you escaped.
For my grandfather, being happy was a matter of survival.
He had to learn to be resilient and optimistic during the war and the subsequent forty years of military dictatorship.
Every time I think of him, I remember him smiling.
As he used to say, “You can solve problems in two ways: smiling or crying. If you choose the first way, solving them will take you less time.”
That simple thought has helped me immensely in the darkest moments of my life.
That’s why I want to share 21 other quick thoughts from my grandfather that can bring a smile back to your face on the grayest day.
- It’s better to enjoy the good times so much that you forget to take a photo than to take the photo and forget to enjoy the good times.
- You can’t always do everything you want to do, but it’s up to you to always do everything you can.
- It’s better to have one good pair of pants that will last you ten years than four that will last you six months. And this also applies to friends.
- People who say, “I’m leaving,” don’t want to leave. What they want is to make your day miserable and make you beg them to stay. Please don’t fall into their trap, or you’ll be their puppet.
- Don’t leave home with your bed unmade so that you sleep like a king when you return home after a hard day. If you don’t pamper yourself, who will?
- The best in life is always yet to come. It may not be accurate, but the thought will keep you going.
- The world will keep turning the day you’re gone. But for the moment, take the opportunity and spin with it.
- Remember, when you argue with someone, “The more they raise their voice at you, the more powerful your silence is.”
- Not all your failures will end up being successes. But your greatest successes will be born out of your failures.
- The less time you have left, the more valuable it is. That’s why every year, you have to raise your standards and dedicate it to only two things: what’s essential and what makes you happy. When you retire, you will discover that they are usually the same.
- The best people you will find in your life are those you underestimate. Those people who don’t need you to thank them for doing you a favor, for example, your mother. On the contrary, the worst people you will find in your life are those who are always looking for you to thank them even for breathing, for example, your ex. Do not confuse one group with another, and everything will be fine.
- Don’t do everything they propose. But whatever you do, do it with enthusiasm.
- Never forget where you started, or you’ll be back to the hole you escaped.
- The sun needs the rain to make the rainbow come out in the same way you need adversity to be happy.
- You can’t be brave without being afraid. What you do with that fear is the difference between a brave person and a coward. The coward is paralyzed; the brave one acts because he knows that the poison (fear) is the antidote (courage).
- When you have a bad day, don’t take it out on your loved ones, or your loved ones will make tomorrow lousy.
- Life will laugh with you if you know how to laugh at yourself. If you don’t, life will laugh at you. It seems the same, but it is not 🙂
- Sadness makes you sick. Joy cures. Meditating on it will reveal the secret to a long, healthy, and fulfilling life.
- Sometimes, losing your time doing nothing is the best way to find what you want to do with your life.
- The more awake you are, the more reality hurts. Because you learn to read the hidden intentions of others between the lines, it’s essential to stay away from evil.
- They say that we don’t value people until we lose them. But what we don’t value is the time we share with them.
Thank you for your time because your time is gold.
A virtual hug.
