The Best Trick I’ve Ever Learned

The trick is simple: do less.

By doing less, you have more time to live a quality life.

Yes, I know I’m a genius 🙂

Please don’t get mad at me. Let me explain the obvious.

Your time is the key.

Your time is the building material of your dreams. Your time is your most precious resource, and you must learn to invest it wisely.

How to invest it wisely?

Learn to discard

Every day, you wake up with a limited amount of energy. Choosing causes you to gradually lose that energy: you must weigh the options, reflect, and decide.

If you spend the day making decisions, your willpower will go down the drain.

So, better than choosing is discarding.

Your life becomes simple when you have a clear vision of your goal.

Then, all you have to master is the art of discarding everything that keeps you from your vision.

But… (There’s always a but.)

People get obsessed with doing too many things. And that never works. Trust me.

It doesn’t matter what your goal is. The only way to achieve it is to minimize the number of things you do: discard.

“Success is doing half a dozen things really well, repeated five thousand times.” – Darren Hardy.

Remember that, and you can achieve whatever you set your mind to.

Work less by working wisely.

Imagine you are a miner, and your livelihood is extracting gold from the mine.

The first thing you must do is find a vein of gold.

And you go probing the mine walls with your pickaxe (that’s the experimentation phase) until you discover a vein of gold (what works for you).

And then you get gold fever, and you look for another vein of gold, and then another, until you say, “I’m going to collect all the gold.”

But when it comes down to it, these three things can happen to you.

  1. remember where all the veins are, so you will lose gold.
  2. Your pickaxe will break before you can mine gold to buy a new one.
  3. When you come back, you will find another miner mining the vein you discovered.

See what I’m getting at?

It’s OK to try a thousand things in the experimentation phase.

But when you find something that works for you and gets you closer to your main goal (your gold vein), explore it relentlessly until it’s empty, and then look for another one.

(AND FOR THAT YOU HAVE TO DISCARD EVERYTHING ELSE).

This way, you will remember where your lode is (what works), and you won’t find another miner exploiting it (your competition).

And if you break your peak, you will have money to buy a new one (you will have resources to reinvest in your dreams).

Conclusion

  1. Choose a target
  2. Experiment with a thousand things to see what works.
  3. When you find something that gets you closer to your goal (whether it’s a skill or a resource), focus only on that.
  4. When you extract the total value from what works for you, repeat the process.

Remember: for this simple process to work, discard everything else.

Discarding is a superpower. And it will get you where you want to go in life.
