#3. Small actions x Persistence = inevitable success.
My grandfather always told me, “It’s better to make a fortune than to be lucky.”
And he was right.
You can’t depend on luck because if you do, it will eventually run out.
However, applying the right mindset will make you a fortune.
I’m not just talking about money: I’m talking about resources, I’m talking about contacts, I’m talking about friends, I’m talking about love, I’m talking about a fulfilling life.
For me, the following three life lessons are vital to make that drastic change in your life happen and stop depending on luck.
Let’s get started.
1. Do it as if you were helping someone you love
We always advise others much better than we do ourselves.
Once a friend of mine wanted to start a company dedicated to giving school courses about recycling and asked me for help to set it up.
I did the following,
- I bought a plane ticket and went to see him.
- I stayed at his house for a month.
- I spent the first week working 10 hours a day, writing the business model for him.
- The second week was spent doing all the paperwork: looking for a manager, filing paperwork, getting permits, and applying for financing.
- The third week was spent implementing and automating work processes: I created a script for the course, prepared training programs for future teachers, generated excels for income and expense accounts, etc.
- And the fourth week, I went out with my friend to talk to all the schools in the city to offer the course.
It was a success, and the company billed hundreds of thousands of euros over four years.
The takeaway: when you have to develop a project or want to fulfill a dream, think of yourself as that best friend who always asks you for favors, and act accordingly: work as if you were working for him, not for yourself. And I assure you that you will achieve incredible results.
2. Ask yourself, “what do I need?” And go for it (STOP OVERTHINKING)
Most of the time, you know what to do when something disturbs your peace of mind.
Do you have a partner who disrespects you? You have to break the relationship, AND YOU KNOW IT.
Do you have a job that distresses you to the point that you have developed skin rashes? You have to quit, AND YOU KNOW IT.
Do you have friends that every time you hang out with them, it’s not what it used to be because they are stuck in childhood, or they always pick on you because they are envious? So you have to leave them, and you know it.
Why don’t you do it? Because 1) you overthink and 2) you’re terrified of the consequences.
Well, I’ll tell you the consequences.
In the end, in a few years, it will be your partner who will leave you, your boss who will fire you, and your friends who won’t pick up the phone when you call them 🙂
It’s always the same, people take advantage of you until they leave you with nothing, then throw you away like a Kleenex.
The takeaway: my grandfather always told me, “when you do the right thing at the wrong time, all you get is pain.” So do the right thing at the right time: now. You will save yourself so much pain, suffering, stress, and unnecessary arguments that your life will magically improve.
3. Small actions x Persistence = inevitable success
Imagine you are preparing a salad. And you cut up a tomato. I don’t know about you, but I used to throw away the stem part of the tomato. And there was always some tomato left around the stem.
One day, I said I would save those little pieces of tomato left next to the tail to make tomato sauce.
And I was amazed at how much sauce I could make by accumulating what I used to throw away in a jar.
With something so simple, I realized there is no small action that, if you accumulate it over time, does not get incredible results.
And that’s what persistence is: the steadfastness of mind in resolutions and resolutions over time: gather the leftover tomato pieces until the success jar is full.
The takeaway: it’s not about doing too much but about doing what you have to do long enough to achieve what you set out to do.
It is more important to diet steadily throughout the year than to drastically reduce your diet two months before the summer. Studying a little bit every day during the term is better than doing it the day before the exam. And so on.
Be constant in the small thing; you will achieve something big by accumulation.
