“You don’t change when you want to change. You change when you have no other choice.”
Your spiritual path is full of traps and dangers.
And it is perfectly normal: Shadows are longest when the sun is close to the horizon: at sunrise and sunset.
And you are constantly opening (sunrise) and closing (sunset) cycles.
That’s why you see the darkness back to back. But you must be bold and keep moving, transcending and transmuting all your mess in your message.
In this article, I share with you the three things that I had to transcend at the beginning in case they can help you in your journey.
1. The egotrip
You don’t change when you want to change. You change when you have no other choice. You change when it hurts more to stay as you are than become something different.
I lived like a Rockandrolla. I didn’t want to meditate, do yoga, or even stop drinking or smoking. But there came the point when the situation was unbearable: it was less painful to change than to stay.
Sometimes you have to yell at the universe, “enough is enough.” Sometimes the suffering forces you to quit the life you were living. Sometimes you need to kill the ego and search for help.
2. The comfort zone
You know the saying, “the devil you know is better than the devil you don’t.” But the reality isn’t permanent, and neither is the comfort zone. So you always experience little changes around you and in you.
Your comfort zone isn’t EVEN real; your comfort zone isn’t built with rocks: it is made of sand. And the moment the winds of change blow or the tide rises, your castle of comfort will crumble.
It’s a matter of time before your circumstances change.
So, you must say goodbye to the known and embrace the unknown. You must take out the old and let in the new. You have to cope with uncertainty.
Don’t be afraid of facing pain and discomfort.
Remember, harsh times improve your life for the better; they make the difference between superficial learning and spiritual growth, between data and real wisdom, and between a fake world and a journey worthy of exploring.
3. The victim mode
Just because someone walks through life with more drama than a soap opera actor doesn’t mean you have to buy into the show.
And this also applies to you. Because… Who are you?
You are not the voice that is always speaking inside your head. You are not your needs; you are not your desires, and you are not your opinions.
I’ll go further: you are not even your thoughts.
So, Who are you?
You are the one who observes the thoughts. You are the one who surfs the emotions. You are the one behind the one, my little padawan.
You are not your victimizing behaviors. You are the one who observes your victimizing behaviors, and due to an excess of attachment and identification, you end up embodying the drama.
Never forget,
- Thoughts are like spells with the power to make you feel real the unreal.
- Thoughts are also like poison; if you take the wrong one, it can be fatal to you.
- But they are also medicine if you choose wisely which thoughts you focus your attention on and which ones you discard.
Now, it’s your turn
Did you experience the ego trip?
You discovered that the comfort zone does not exist and escaped from it before it was destroyed before your eyes?
Did you accept that you are not your thoughts?
What situations and experiences have you had to experience along your spiritual path?
I would love to know, so feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
A virtual hug
