Acceptance is the most addictive drug; a demon that makes you sell your soul in exchange for attention.
When you fall into the trap of acceptance, there is no turning back, you need to fit in more and more, and you find it harder to say no to any favor you are asked.
You end up being a slave to anyone who knows how to trigger your addiction. — Usually, Gaslighters and emotional vampires who know how to turn you into an addict to their love.
What would your life be like if you could free yourself from the attachment to certain people?
Believe it or not, you would be more independent, self-sufficient, and happier. Because you would be genuinely living your life, not one based on pleasing everyone at the expense of your mental and emotional health.
And sometimes, you compromise too much, and you overlook many things that you should not ignore. Because when people gain confidence in you, they disrespect you, and you end up not seeing the red flags until it’s too late.
And then you must auto-suggest yourself and forget all the slights done to you so as not to be excluded from a social group. But let me tell you something,
“The bad memories you freeze in your mind still smell rotten when you thaw them.”
And no matter how much time passes, there will come a time when you can’t swallow any more shit, and it will all come out eventually.
Save it, and start thinking about yourself.
You have to get out of the cycle of bullshit. You have to stop postponing your life by attending to the lives of others. Unfortunately, that attitude only breeds bread for today and hunger for tomorrow: misery.
Misery is like chewing gum that sticks to your shoe and is hard to remove. And that misery, if not cleansed, starts by tiring you mentally but ends up destroying you slowly without the mercy of a quick blow.
Life is hard, and success is a combination of endurance and luck. But you can’t win the game of life if you’re living someone else’s.
Stop fantasizing and act.
Leon Felipe was right when he wrote, “Start by counting stones, then you will count stars.
Stop the excuses, and act.
Start small: say no to someone who constantly abuses your goodwill.
To reach heaven, you must first learn to live with your feet on the ground.
You have to be self-determined and start setting limits.
You must regain your relationship with yourself because you need yourself more than anyone else. Reread it.
Pay the price and get the reward.
My grandfather, as a child, always told me something that I didn’t understand until I was older,
“I have never pretended to be more than I am, but it has cost me everything I have been.”
Over the years, I realized we adults can’t change the past, but we can sacrifice it to bring about real change.
Grab those old skeletons you keep in the closet and burn them at the altar of the new person you’re going to become.
Just because you’ve been a certain way, your whole life doesn’t mean you have to stay that way forever. But you will have to sacrifice your old habits if you want to become someone different.
Start by stopping procrastinating. Start by prioritizing yourself. And don’t waste time, because if there’s one thing sure in this life, it’s that as the years go by, time seems to go by faster and faster.
I think back to 2000, and it seems like yesterday, even though we are starting in 2024. Life goes by in the blink of an eye; as the famous Uruguayan poet Mario Benedetti used to say, “I have the anguishing feeling that life is slipping away from me as if my veins had opened and I could not stop my blood.
Save time. Start today; tomorrow is too late. Choose you and let the rest adapt, and those who don’t adapt leave.
This year is yours. This year it’s your turn to live your life fully.
