The Jesus of Nazaret Reminder, Each Highly Spiritual Person, Needs To Hear

The art of leaving your dramas behind.

If you pointed a gun at my cat and asked me the secret to being a highly spiritual person, I would say, “Leave the past behind.”

And if you were still pointing a gun at my cat, I would add, “Leave your dead alone, or they will come out of the coffin to bury you with them.”

Jesus explained it better than I can in one of the New Testament passages.

Jesus of Nazareth Reminder

Your life may have been more painful than eating glass, or you may have gone through stages more uncomfortable than living in a cheap boarding house with a shared bathroom, but regret porn is not the solution, believe me.

You have to leave the past behind.

One would-be disciple told Jesus, “Lord, let me first bury my father. Then I follow you.”

Jesus replied something disturbing, “Let the dead bury the dead.”

What is the meaning of these words of Jesus?

It is not that Jesus was a heartless sociopath who did not care about the death of the boy’s father.

The Bible has encrypted messages.

What we can read between the lines in this sentence of Jesus is something we should tattoo on our foreheads to see every time we look in the mirror: “Let the past deal with the past.”

Leave your dramas behind.

The worst thing you can do to yourself is not invite your mother-in-law over for a honeymoon or leave the kitchen faucet running all night.

The worst thing you can do to yourself is not letting go of the past.

Why?

Because you end up not forgiving yourself for what you’ve lost. And when you lose the ability to forgive yourself, you automatically become your worst enemy, the Joker.

And you need to be Batman, not the f*cking Joker dancing down the stairs painted like an ugly clown and feeling that life sucks and people suck even more.

Not letting go of the past leads to resentment, overriding your ability to be happy. Read it again.

Believe me. Nothing in the world is worse than having it all and still being unhappy. It is an emptiness that nothing can fill.

It’s an existential anguish that ends up swallowing you alive.

That’s why you must leave your past, your dramas, and your desire for revenge behind.

Or that past will finish you faster than you can say supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.

Focus on what you have today.

In Spain we say “agua vieja no mueve molino”, (old water does not move mill),

This means that what you had in the past is not what you have now. And therefore, it will not help you evolve.

And to evolve is what this great game called life is all about.

The same passage of the New Testament says that another follower of Jesus said, “I will follow you wherever you go.”

Jesus replied, “Foxes have caves to live in, and birds have nests, but the Son of Man does not even have a place to lay his head.”

Meaning that 1) there is no destination to arrive at, 2) life is a constant evolution, 3) having conscience and intelligence are gifts to be honored, and 4) there is no time to waste; life is short.

To have a conscience is a great privilege.

But as Uncle Ben said to Peter Parker after he became Spider-Man, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

And that you have consciousness in this infinite universe is much more than a great power; it is a miracle.

Remember, we are the fingers with which the universe pinches its cheeks to check that it is alive. We cannot rest on our laurels.

We must ask ourselves the big questions, or at least the one Paramahansa Yogananda suggested in his book Autobiography Of A Yogi, “Who am I?”

That question leads you to others that may give you more of a headache than having a Vodka hangover but are worth exploring, especially if you are a highly spiritual being.

  • What am I doing here?
  • Where am I coming from?
  • Where am I going?

Questions whose answers will not make you rich but will give meaning and direction to your spiritual journey in this brief experience we call life.

So don’t forget,

  1. Let the past deal with the past.
  2. Hurry up; life is short, and we have not come to rest on our laurels but to evolve.

A virtual hug
