#3. You don’t fall into the trap of materialism.

As a kid, we all like to be seen as too mature for our age. 
As you get older, it sucks.

They tell you things like, “You used to be cool,” “You’re turning into your dad,” or my favorite, “You’re going to end up being the old cat lady.”

But you may not be as antisocial as people think; you may be an old soul.

Note: according to Taoism, an old soul has already lived several lives and accumulated many experiences.

How can you tell?

Here are three signs that you are not a hermit but what the Taoists called an “old soul.”

1. Your life is like the movie Groundhog Day.

Note: The movie Groundhog Day tells the story of a television weatherman who covers the annual Groundhog Day event on an infinite loop, where he will have to relive the same day repeatedly.

If you are an old soul, you have already played so many games of the video game entitled “mediocre life on earth” that it seems you are a mixture of a telepath (you know what they are going to ask you before they ask you) and a prophet (you know the intentions of the people who approach you and you know yourself well enough to see how that relationship will end in the future).

That’s why people say you isolate yourself, but you protect yourself.

You don’t want to repeatedly play the same video game screen in an infinite loop. And you don’t want to repeat mistakes you’ve made before; you want to get finish the last screen of the videogame, and you don’t have time to waste.

Signal: you feel you have already experienced many things before living them. It is as if your mind made you spoilers of your own life.

2. You attract a lot of crazy people.

Have you seen all those Gurus on YouTube?

People always surround them. And it’s a little bit annoying.

But not all old souls are destined to be Sadhguru or Ram Dass.

Many old souls prefer to live anonymous lives and engage in personal self-exploration.

But they still attract the attention of others like a powerful electromagnet. Consequently, many young souls approach them for advice.

And while they can help them, if they do not protect their time and invest it in those lessons they have yet to learn, they will have to keep coming back to earth.

That is why they prefer to be alone.

Mr. Miyagui cannot spend reincarnation after reincarnation being Daniel San’s teacher because there will always be a new Daniel LaRusso who needs help, and Mr. Miyagui cannot be the secondary character of all of them; he has to be the protagonist of his own life sometimes.

(even if the Daniel San’s of life don’t understand it and throw it in his face 🙂

Signal: everyone comes to you when they need advice. Even people you have been related to for a long time.

3. You don’t fall into the trap of materialism.

I have a theory that many billionaires, influencers, and all kinds of celebrities who end badly are new souls.

They are in their first reincarnations (following Taoist logic) and want to experience all that matter offers.

And these young souls, who love to party, feel good to be close to you.

Because if you are an old soul, the new souls feel at peace in your presence, which makes up for all their madness.

For them, being with you is like having a coffee to sober up from the night before.

In other words, they use you 🙂

But you are tired of the bullshit. You know that the way is not to drink it all, eat it all, sleep with everyone, and travel the world uploading selfies to your Instagram feed.

The natural way is not outward but inward. And every old soul knows it.

That is why many old souls become contemplative monks of any spiritual tradition, whether they are Zen monks or Christian contemplatives. 
Others end up simply being quiet people who want to live in peace. And who no longer falls for the old tricks of the world of forms.

Signal: You prefer to read a book or go for a walk than to go to a rave. It’s not that you don’t like to have fun; it’s just that you have much more fun in one-on-one conversations than with 20 people shouting “Swallow, swallow, swallow” while competing in a keg beer-drinking championship 😉

If you identify with some of the signs, you may not be a loner but an old soul. And that’s not bad; on the contrary, you are way ahead in this giant Rubik’s cube called life. Keep it up, and you will complete all its faces.
