Discover the wisdom of one of the most extraordinary living spiritual masters.
About a month ago, I saw an old Caroline Myss interview that blew my mind so much that I could not stop reflecting on it.
In it, the interviewer asks, “When you pray and pray, and nothing happens, it’s because it’s just not time?” To keep Caroline from going off the deep end by talking about why we don’t get the things we want when we ask the universe for them.
But she didn’t avoid the question and bluntly said, “Prayers are always answered. But you just don’t like how”.

In the interview, she went into much more depth about why we often seem to get the opposite of what we ask the universe for.
1. “All times prayers are answered, and sometimes that answer takes us into more pain to heal” — Caroline Myss.
As Caroline says in the interview, we would like to pray, have some angel/magic lamp genie appear, and have our wish granted. But it doesn’t work that way.
As a reader said to me the other day, “The universe will give you nuts, but it won’t crack them for you.”
And it’s true. To make matters worse, those nuts are usually disguised as the opposite of what we ask for, and it is because we live in a dual world.
And that implies that we usually have to face the opposite to achieve something. You know what they say: “In the poison is in the antidote.”
Application to your life:
As my grandfather used to say, “Medicine is bitter, but it works.” So always keep in mind that,
- If you ask the universe for resilience, the universe will send you adversity to strengthen you.
- If you ask the universe for certainty, the universe will send you uncertainty to make you look for certainties.
- If you ask the universe for abundance, the universe will send you scarcity to take you out of your comfort zone, and you will have to find your way.
2. “After praying, you have to let it go and just keep praying: God give me faith” — Caroline Myss.
In the interview, Caroline insists that you don’t have to bore the universe with your wishes constantly; the universe listens to you the first time.
Caroline underlines the importance of asking for faith after communicating to the universe what we want.
And she is right because, without faith, we will never be able to approach the sea of adversity and have the waters open up.
The universe needs us to take steps toward our dreams courageously and confidently. Only then will the law of correspondence work, and we will obtain what we desire because we will vibrate the same.
Application to your life:
Faith is trusting that the path will open before you. Just that.
When you ask for something from the universe, ask for faith to start walking towards your dream, turning a deaf ear to the noise outside.
Because when you ask for something, just at that moment, things get intense, as we have seen in point one, and it is easy to confuse the road to success with the road to failure.
That is why we must have faith to keep walking without forgetting that the darkest hour is the one that is closest to the dawn.
3. “Every time you have an intuitive hunch that will direct you to take the most outrageous path in your life, take it.” — Caroline Myss.
As we have seen throughout the article, when we ask the universe for something with all our will, the following happens,
- The universe does not send you what you are looking for but what you need to achieve what you want (even if it is the opposite of what you asked for).
- We must let go of the request once formulated. And focus on asking for faith to distinguish the path to failure from the path to success because they tend to resemble each other.
- Finally, you have to listen to your intuition.
Your intuition is the umbilical cord that connects you with the universe.
Application to your life:
Let me share with you my example.
I prayed to be a writer.
The first sign I received was a quote from the bible, “Be brave, strive.”
I did. I believed in the universe and took the most unsettling and uncertain path imaginable.
The second sign was the size of a building: in the church in front of my house, they put up a sign with the quote from Matthew 4:4: “Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
At that point, I put my shame aside and began to share what I believe the holy spirit (for others, the muses, or whatever you want to call it) puts in my mind to communicate through these articles.
That involved being painfully honest about my past addictions and writing these articles about things that many people reading them think I’m crazy.
It’s not easy to write about spirituality because the criticisms you receive are many and hurtful (especially from your former high school classmates or people who know your family).
It’s not all roses.
But I followed the sign, and it worked; my dream came true: I’m a writer.
And yours will come true, but don’t expect the universe to give it to you how you want it, but the opposite 🙂
Remember that, as Caroline Myss says, “Prayers are always answered.”
